How Facial Aesthetics Can Help You

Facial aesthetics include a wide range of services to enhance the appearance of your skin, face and neck. Facial aesthetic services can minimize the signs of aging, including sagging skin, fine lines, pigmentary variability, vascular changes, increased pore size and wrinkles. Facial aesthetics can also recontour and enhance individual areas of your face, including your eyes, brows, chin, mouth, neck and other areas.

Different Types of Facial Aesthetic Services

Common facial aesthetic plastic surgery services include:

Facelift and neck lift,--improve the effects of time and gravity throughout your face and tightens sagging skin along the jawline and neck. The overall effect of a facelift is a more lifted, younger-looking face with less sagging at the jawline and neck

Eyelid lift-- also known as blepharoplasty, removes excess fat and skin. This may be recommended for the upper eyelid, the lower eyelid or both.  The levator muscle, which raises the eyelids, may also be shortened to open your eyes more widely.  The overall effect of an eyelid lift is eyes that look larger, more open, and less tired. An eyelid lift may also be performed for medical reasons, to improve the field of vision.  Laser tightening of the skin is often combined with the lower eyelid blepharoplasty to help tighten the skin.

Brow lift --brings up the heavy tissue under the eyebrow hair to improve the highlight zone between the eyelid and eyebrow.  The brow lift may also be useful in improving the wrinkle lines between the eyebrows.  The overall effect of a brow lift is a more lifted, younger-looking upper face and eyelids.   Many patients that think they have droopy eyelids also have droopy eyebrow tissue.

Skin rejuvenation --is an important component of facial care.   This might include chemical peels, laser, radiofrequency energy, topical skin care and light energy based treatments.

Minimally invasive services to improve facial aesthetics -- neuromodulators treat fine facial lines and wrinkles, soft tissue fillers are useful for correcting volumetric loss of facial tissue, an inescapable effect of increasing age.

What To Expect After Minimally Invasive Facial Aesthetic Surgical Procedures

After minimally invasive procedures, you may experience redness, swelling, lumpiness and some bruising that will last hours to days.  Some laser procedures will cause redness for several days to a week.  Radiofrequency treatments may cause bumpy redness for hours to days.  Chemical peels may cause redness and peeling for several days after the treatment.

Neuromodulators begin to work in 48 hours and show their results at 14 days after treatment.   The good effects last for 3 to 4 months and then repeat treatment may be recommended.

Soft tissue fillers will routinely cause some redness, lumpiness and occasionally bruising.  This may last 2 days or up to a week.  The desired effects of the filler are seen at about a week after treatment and persist for months after injection.

Radiofrequency treatments are used to modify skin, fat, sagging and texture of skin.  The treatments require topical or injected local anesthetic and look red and bumpy for a few days after treatment.   A series of treatment is usually recommended.  Best results may take up to a few months to appear.

Light energy treatments and lasers for pigment and vascular lesions may be red for a few days, but typically resolve quickly.   A series of treatments is usually recommended

Ablative laser for wrinkles and lines and pigment causes redness and abnormal appearance for about 5 days after treatment and the redness may last for 2 to 4 weeks.   The best effects take a few months to appear.   While this treatment may be done on multiple occasions, one treatment is usually adequate to make significant improvements.

What To Expect After Facial Aesthetic Surgical Procedures

After your surgical procedure, it’s common to experience bruising and swelling. Your surgeon will provide post-operative instructions, medications, and other information to keep you comfortable after your procedure.

Depending on the facial aesthetic procedure, it can take between 1 and 7 hours to complete.  The minimally invasive options are shorter and may be performed in the office surgery suite,  while the larger surgical procedures are in the ambulatory surgery setting.  Most procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under sedation, so it’s important to bring a driver with you. Downtime is typically at least 2 weeks, and you will notice optimal results may take a few months.
